Bale backs Wales for Euro 2016

Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale believes Wales have a squad that can qualify for Euro 2016, and reflected on winning the European Super Cup in Cardiff.

Bale was part of the Madrid side that dispatched Sevilla in early August, winning the trophy in front of his home-town crowd.

His focus is now however on international duty as Chris Coleman’s side prepare for their qualification campaign with a place in France up for grabs.

“We feel we have a good squad and we’re playing good football,” AS reports Bale as saying.

“We have the right team and everything is in place now to qualify. Now we have to do the work on the pitch.

“It’s exciting. We have a great team and we’re full of confidence. The fact that our team can qualify gives us more confidence.

“There will be 100% concentration against every opponent. We need a good start.”

Wales begin their qualification push against Andorra with Bale insisting that turning out for Wales was not a chore but an obligation.

“It’s our job, we’re playing for our country,” he contended.

“No matter where you are or on what pitch we’re playing we will give everything and go there to win the game. For us it’s very important to start well.

“We’re young but we have been together for five, six or seven years. Hopefully we’ve the right to qualify for major tournaments now.”

When Bale did touch on club matters, he did so in the context of the national team, particularly the support Wales receive from the fans.

“It was amazing to win the Super Cup in Cardiff,” Bale recalled.

“The atmosphere was great and whenever we play the fans come to support us and fill the stadium.

“Hopefully we can get more fans in the stadium to cheer and help the national team.”
