Raphael Varane was pleased with France’s display in the win over Spain and admitted it mattered more because it was La Roja.
The Real Madrid defender played the full 90 minutes of the 1-0 victory and told reporters after the final whistle that it is the stature of the Spain side that makes victory so sweet.
“It’s a great night, a special feeling, a great pleasure to beat Spain, a great team,” AS reports Varane as saying.
He added that with France not needing to qualify for Euro 2016, as tournament hosts, it’s crucial they keep up the momentum gained from a relatively successful World Cup.
“Although we’ll only play friendlies, we have to continue like this, with the same spirit, born in the World Cup,” Varane continued.
“Our strength is collective and we make the effort together.”
