Emery-Reyes relationship broken down?

The relationship between Sevilla boss Unai Emery and midfielder Jose Antonio Reyes appears to have broken down, according to Marca.

The former Arsenal, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid man has played just 12 minutes so far this season, coming on as a substitute in the Supercopa against Real Madrid, with things thought to have come to a head during last week’s 2-1 victory over Espanyol.

Reyes, who was on the bench and warmed up but did not come on, is alleged to have had words with Emery where he voiced his unhappiness at the situation.

Nonetheless, the Basque Coach appears determined that Reyes will not have such a prominent part to play as last season, having decided that the team’s style is best suited to the speed of Vitolo, Aleix Vidal and Gerard Deulofeu down the flanks.

It is understood that Emery has already informed the club’s board that 31-year-old Reyes’ influence within the team would diminish this campaign, although it is not the first time the Sevilla-born player has run into difficulties at the club.

In the past Reyes has been barracked by fans after several below par displays. However, his performances in the derbies with Real Betis last season and a much-improved attitude changed the whistles to applause.

Even so, his days at the Sanchez Pizjuan could be numbered if the current impasse continues and he may find himself looking for another club in the January transfer window.
