Forlan: Suarez ban was excessive

Diego Forlan has described Luis Suarez’s move to Barcelona as ‘amazing’ and believes that his four-month ban was ‘excessive’.

The former Liverpool forward was banned from all football-related activity for his bite on Giorgio Chiellini in the World Cup.

But the veteran goalscorer was delighted to see that the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the suspension to allow Suarez to train with the Blaugrana.

When asked about the ban, Forlan told Marca: “It was too much. It was excessive.

“It had to happen, but, I do not understand that he could not train with peers or go to stadiums.

“The signing [of Suarez] is amazing for what it is. He comes at a time of change at Barcelona, but, he knows it's a great institution.

“It will be very nice to see him there.”
