Fiorentina watching Khedira status

Serie A side Fiorentina are said to be leading the chase to sign Real Madrid’s out-of-favour midfielder Sami Khedira.

AS reports that Madrid are willing to leave Khedira on the sidelines if he doesn’t sign a new contract with his current deal in its final 12 months.

Khedira was left out of the squad to play Sevilla in this week’s European Super Cup and Madrid’s attempts to agree a new deal with the World Cup winning Germany international have so far been rejected.

Madrid and Fiorentina this weekend play a friendly in Poland and it’s claimed that the clubs will discuss Khedira then.

A fee of €10m could be required while Fiorentina will offer Khedira €3.5m a year, although the player may prefer a return to Germany or a switch to the Premier League.

Fiorentina’s lack of Champions League football could count against them while AS suggest Bayern Munich could approach Khedira after Javi Martinez was ruled out with a serious knee injury.

Khedira had been linked with Arsenal but manager Arsene Wenger confirmed recently that there had never been any interest from the Gunners in the former Stuttgart player.
