Suarez ban upheld, training allowed

Luis Suarez’s biting ban has been upheld by the Court of Arbitration for Sport but the Barcelona forward will be allowed to train with his new club.

Suarez was sanctioned by FIFA for an incident with Giorgio Chiellini during the Italy vs. Uruguay World Cup group stage encounter.

FIFA banned Suarez for four months from all football activity and nine international games but he was allowed to complete a July move to Barca from Liverpool despite being barred from training with the Catalans, being presented as a Barca player or stepping foot inside a football stadium or training ground.

The world governing body rejected an appeal from Suarez and Uruguay and CAS have maintained the four-month suspension but relaxed the football activity portion of the punishment, Mundo Deportivo has reported.

As it stands the first La Liga game for which Suarez will be available will be the first Clasico of the season on October 26, when Barca play Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu.

Should the match have been set for October 25, Suarez would still have been banned.

It’s said that Suarez will now be presented as a Barca player and join training with his teammates.

MD also note Suarez has been working with a physiotherapist during his ban.
