Bale: Dream to play in Cardiff

Gareth Bale has revealed his excitement at playing in his home town of Cardiff for Real Madrid next week.

The Welsh capital hosts the European Super Cup between Madrid and Sevilla next week and Bale has said in an interview that he is relishing the prospect of returning to familiar surroundings.

“For me it is special because I was born there. I have lots of family and friends there. I always go there when I have time off,” AS reports Bale as saying.

“I knew the game was to be played there 18 months ago. When I came to Madrid it was always a dream to win the Champions League and play in Cardiff.

“Now it’s fulfilled. I’m excited and I’m looking forward to it.

“All my family and friends will be there. Playing in Cardiff is very special to me but more important is to win the game.”

Asked what should be expected of the crowd, which will include a large percentage of locals, Bale was effusive in his praise.

“Fans in Wales are very passionate. The atmosphere created is amazing. It’s an honour to have the Super Cup in Cardiff,” he said.

“We will show that Cardiff is a great city and we can host big events.

“The food, the weather…if you compare the cities there are many differences but I feel welcome in both.

“Obviously I’d love to win 5-0 but someone has to score the goals. No matter who scores, it’s a team matter and we are all happy to win.

“We need to play as we know we can. If we do we can beat any team. We have to prepare well and work together. If we do, we will take the trophy.”
