Bartomeu: No Suarez bite clause

Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has denied the existence of a biting clause in Luis Suarez’s contract.

Bartomeu has been interviewed by CNN, AS report, and touched on Suarez, the legal situations involving Neymar and Lionel Messi, and the future of the club.

On Suarez, Bartomeu confirmed the club first approached the Uruguay international before the World Cup and didn’t back away after he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini.

“Barcelona made first contact before the World Cup and told him that he was the right age and experience to take the plunge,” Bartomeu said.

“We knew many years ago that Suarez loves our club and loves our city. Therefore everything was perfect and the right atmosphere to accept Suarez was created.

“We knew he had better offers but he decided to come to Barca.

“We didn’t rethink the decision after the bite and so we told Luis. He knows he made a mistake and apologised.

“He was perfect in Liverpool, the fans say. Now they wonder how we would react if he bit someone but we can’t talk about something that may or may not happen. We don’t know.

“What we know is that we would accept responsibility. There’s no anti-biting clause. If anyone would put that in it’s us, but it doesn’t exist.”
