Jeremy Mathieu has admitted that replacing Carles Puyol in the Barcelona defence will be a hard act to follow.
The French centre-back completed his €20m move from Valencia to Camp Nou last week, with many baulking at the price.
And the player himself has conceded that he has a lot to live up to if he’s to be a success with the Blaugrana.
“I will give 100 per cent of myself and I hope everything works out well out on the pitch,” he told Barca TV.
“It’s difficult to come in just after someone like Carles Puyol, but I will show that Barca have made the right decision in signing me.
“My Spanish is much better now than it was when I joined Valencia but I will do my talking out on the pitch.
“I’ve come to Barca to win all of the trophies that have escaped me so far.”
