‘Di Stefano would approve of Kroos’

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has welcomed Toni Kroos to the club and believes Alfredo Di Stefano would approve of the signing.

Kroos was yesterday unveiled as a Madrid player after completing his move from Bayern Munich, with Perez conducting the ceremony.

Di Stefano passed away earlier this month but was in the mind of Perez and Kroos, the latter speaking warmly about the late Madrid icon.

Perez also referenced Di Stefano, after introducing the World Cup winning Germany international as Los Blancos’ latest arrival.

“It’s a very happy day for our club because we get a great player for our team. Toni, welcome to Madrid,” Perez began, according to Marca.

“Today we need someone who has been in presentations of recent years. We knew it wouldn’t be easy to live without Alfredo Di Stefano. We know he will be with us for eternity.

“I’m sure Alfredo would be excited about our new signing.

“We’ve got a great player, as he just proved at the World Cup, where he was one of the best in the tournament.

“His high performance wasn’t a surprise for us and was confirmation that we’ve got the right man.”
