Deulofeu not fazed by Barca rivals

Gerard Deulofeu has said he believes hard work will win him a place in the Barcelona side despite the competition for places.

Deulofeu has given an interview to Mundo Deportivo in which he reflected on his loan last year at Everton and looked to the future under Luis Enrique.

The winger also spoke of his excitement at playing at Camp Nou, revealing he is eager to run out in front of the club’s supporters.

“I’ve had the opportunity to play there and it’s amazing,” Deulofeu said.

“I really want to start the season, for everything to go well and to win everything with Barca.

“[Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez] are the best players but I am confident in myself. I think a lot of my chances and I work every day hoping to get my challenge.

“For now I’m on vacation. What I have to do is work hard and do what the Coach decides.

“Just getting in the team will make me happy. Collectively the requirement of the club is to win titles.

“I like a little pressure. That’s how football goes. I think that without pressure we can’t be the best.”

Deulofeu saw Suarez up close during his time in the Premier League and paid tribute to the Uruguay international.

“He’s a very interesting player. For me, he’s one of the best strikers in the world and if he comes he would be a great signing,” Deulofeu said.

He also touched on the exits of Victor Valdes and Carles Puyol and the potential departure of Xavi Hernandez, and also revealed his favourite Barca players of recent times.

“I’ve never had an idol but I watched Ronaldinho, and then players like Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi…They are so good, it’s impossible not to notice them,” he said.

“It’s a shame [Valdes, Puyol and Xavi] might leave. We’ll miss them and we’ll see if Xavi goes, but there are players like Andres and Sergio Busquets. They help the young people a lot.”
