Deulofeu seeks defensive improvement

Sevilla winger Gerard Deulofeu has admitted he must improve defensively ahead of this Saturday’s clash with Barcelona.

The 20-year-old winger is on loan from Barca at the Sanchez Pizjuan, along with Denis Suarez, and is looking forward to locking horns with his parent club at the Camp Nou.

“We are excited to be playing at the Camp Nou and it will be a different game. Barca don’t put in clauses stating their former players can’t play against them,” he told Sevilla’s television station.

Deulofeu will also get the chance to show Luis Enrique what he can do, the Barca boss having handed him his debut with the B team aged just 16, but who dispensed with his services last summer.

“It’s his opinion. I know I lack in certain defensive aspects and I need to improve, but [Sevilla boss] Unai Emery is always on to me about it and shows me a lot of patience.

“It’s going very well here and I’m learning a lot of things. I like how Sevilla play and I want to be in the side even more.

“But I know it’s going to be hard to beat Barca, although we can cause them problems. They have very good players, as they sign the best in the world, but we can make life difficult for them.”

The Girona-born player revealed that one of his football idols was former Barcelona striker Ronaldinho.

“He’s the best footballer I’ve ever seen and someone that gave me great enjoyment. He returned the joy to Barca at a time when things were not going so well,” maintained Deulofeu.
