Van Gaal: Krul a better choice

Holland Coach Louis Van Gaal says there is no doubt that Jasper Cillessen will start in goal against Argentina.

The Dutch boss substituted his goalkeeper for Tim Krul moments before tonight’s World Cup quarter-final penalty shootout against Costa Rica.

It proved a successful move, with the Newcastle man saving two of the Central Americans’ five spot-kicks to send the Oranje through to the last four of the competition.

“We told Krul that he would be a possibility for the pens, we didn't tell Cillessen,” Van Gaal said after the final whistle in Salvador. “We didn't want to ruin his preparation.

“There is no question about who will start next game, it will be Cillessen. But we felt Krul was the better choice here.

“We know Krul is the better penalty killer, a bigger reach too. We have practiced penalties, I believe when you're used to a certain shot you'll be more comfortable taking that shot.

“This is the best group I've worked with. In terms of team spirit, togetherness.”
