FIFA open Suarez case

FIFA are investigating the incident between Luis Suarez and Giorgio Chiellini after the Uruguay forward appeared to bite the Italy defender.

The BBC confirm that the world governing body have started disciplinary proceedings against Suarez, who has until 5pm this evening Brazilian time to respond.

Suarez and Chiellini clashed during Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Italy, the result confirming the South Americans’ progression out of Group D at the expense of the Azzurri.

Should Suarez be found guilty, he could face a maximum ban of 24 games or two years.

It is the third time Suarez has been accused of biting an opponent, having been involved in incidents with Otman Bakkal during his time as an Ajax player, and Branislav Ivanovic in 2013.

Suarez was banned for seven games for biting Bakkal and 10 for biting Ivanovic.
