Pepe Reina believes that David Villa’s international retirement will leave a ‘void’ in the Spain squad.
La Roja ended their World Cup campaign with a 3-0 win over Australia in Curitiba.
Goals from Juan Mata, Fernando Torres and Villa gave Vicente delo Bosque’s men the three points, and the goalkeeper wanted to praise the New York City man after the match.
“Villa leaves a great void in this team,” he told reporters following the final whistle. “Especially on a human level.”
Reina was then asked to explain Villa’s tears when substituted on the hour mark.
“I’d imagine he was angry. He wants to play every minute of every game.”
