Reina ‘proud to play in WC’

Pepe Reina doesn’t know if he’ll take the gloves for Spain’s last World Cup match, against Australia today, but would be proud to do so.

It’s been suggested that Iker Casillas could sit out the final Group B game as La Roja and the Socceroos meet to decide who finishes third and fourth in the table.

Reina spoke to the Press last night and confirmed that at that point, Vicente Del Bosque hadn’t revealed his thinking as to who would be between the posts.

“I don’t know. I’m still waiting for the Coach to say,” Marca reports Reina as saying.

“I’ll be ready to play but it depends on the Coach if it’s to be my last game for Spain.

“The dream of every Spanish footballer is to play at the World Cup and I hope I can. I’m proud to be at the World Cup.

“We can’t change anything because we’re already out, but we end with a win and with dignity. When we wear this shirt we try to win.

“It’s the law of life [that generations change]. Some people will leave and other players will come in.

“The important thing is that the group grows and continues to improve.”
