Veloso: Ronaldo will be ready

Miguel Veloso has insisted that Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit for Portugal’s game against USA on Sunday.

The Ballon d’Or winner has been a doubt for the match tomorrow with a persistent knee injury plaguing his preparations.

The Real Madrid forward has been suffering since the end of the season, and despite playing a full part in their loss the Germany, had to leave training early on Friday with an ice pack strapped to his knee.

But Ronaldo’s fellow midfielder Veloso has claimed that the former Manchester United man will be ready.

“I'm not a doctor but from what I see, Cristiano Ronaldo is fine," he told reporters.

“He is training, he is jumping and he is shooting. There is not much else to say.”

One man who won’t be there though, is Fabio Coentrao – the left-back was ruled out of the tournament with a thigh strain, and Veloso is happy to fill in in defence.

“I'm in a group of 23 players and I'm ready to play in any position that the coach chooses. That could be at left-back or in central midfield.

“I'll do so with pleasure, because what we all want is to play and to do the best we possibly can.”
