Queiroz to quit Iran

Former Real Madrid Coach Carlos Queiroz will leave his post with the Iran national team after the World Cup.

The BBC reports that the Portuguese will leave Team Melli because the government isn’t funding the side to what he feels is the required level.

“Yes my connection will finish here at the World Cup,” Queiroz confirmed.

“There was not support from the government – there has stopped being a genuine interest because of the financial situation.

“The dialogue has been cut off and I have already decided not to stay.”

Iran are in Group F, alongside Nigeria, with whom they drew 0-0, Argentina, their next opponents, and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Queiroz sat on the Madrid bench in the 2003-04 season, winning the Supercopa, but five defeats to end the season saw Los Blancos finish fourth in the League, and he was sacked after 10 months in charge.
