‘Del Bosque should continue’

The secretary general of the RFEF has said Vicente Del Bosque should remain as Spain Coach despite La Roja’s World Cup elimination.

Jorge Perez has told Spanish television that he has no doubt Del Bosque should stay in charge for the duration of his contract, which extends to 2016 and the European Championships.

“Not in the worst predictions did we think what has happened was going to happen,” Marca reports Perez as saying.

“We still haven’t talked with Del Bosque. It’s better to have some distance and we will talk calmly in Madrid.

“When Del Bosque signed the contract he said that if for some reason we thought he shouldn’t go on, he wouldn’t. I want him to stay.

“Del Bosque hasn’t resigned. If he did, I’d ask him to stay.

“From the first to the last in the Federation, we’re all together with Del Bosque. If we have the best, why change?

“Criticism has no affect. His family can’t convince him to stay but we won’t find anyone better.”

Perez was also asked if the players were tired and if that was a potential reason why Spain have disappointed.

“The players are playing 60 games every year and it’s a huge effort,” he replied. “Unfortunately, it shows.”
