Sampaoli backs Chile to beat Spain

Jorge Sampaoli has backed his Chile players to beat Spain this evening and knock the reigning champions out of the World Cup.

La Roja lost 5-1 to Netherlands last Friday, which means they have to beat the South American’s in order to maintain a chance of making the knockout rounds.

But Sampaoli believe that his men can go toe-to-toe with Vicente del Bosque’s side.

“If we play well tomorrow, win and kick them out of the World Cup it will be very positive for us,” he told a Press conference.

“We know Spain need to win tomorrow and that they are out if they lose.

“This is obviously something we are bearing in mind. We will choose a side that suits playing against a team that must win to stay in the tournament.”

Arturo Vidal though, is a doubt as he tried to make a comeback from injury – and the tactician has revealed he will wait until the last minute to decide if the Juventus man will play.

“I said it would be difficult for him to join us [at the World Cup] because he had a serious injury and he had surgery.

“However, he played against Australia and we will see how he feels now. We will assess tomorrow whether he can play, he’s been training this week and he’s really eager to play. He will play some minutes.”
