Perez denies Qatar wrongdoing

Real Madrid have released an official statement denying President Florentino Perez had any involvement in Qatar’s bid to host the World Cup.

The Arab state has come under fire ever since it was announced it would host the 2022 edition of the tournament.

Excessively high weather conditions, slave labour allegations and implications of bribery and corruption have seen many call for a re-vote.

And the European champions have also been brought into the scandal, with France Football alleging that the club and the President were involved in secret meetings that would see Qatar get the World Cup.

A statement read: “1. It is absolutely false that there was a meeting in October 2009, or on any other date, with the delegation named in the report, nor with any other delegation, nor with the president of the Federación Española de Fútbol, nor with anybody in relation to Qatar's World Cup candidacy.

“2. Real Madrid and their president, Florentino Pérez, will take the legal action they consider appropriate against France Football and against the authors of the report.”
