Reina: Win or go home

Pepe Reina believes that if Spain don’t beat Chile tomorrow, their World Cup will be over.

AS reports the goalkeeper as saying La Roja will show their best when their back is against the wall, and the squad will give everything against the South Americans.

“There are two games that give us the chance to make things right. But we have run out of credit. It’s a final and if we don’t win we’ll almost certainly go home,” Reina admitted.

“In extreme situations, the most demanding, is when we show the best of ourselves. We want to be right again and show a version of Spain as it should be, a dominant team with leadership in the match and victory.

“It’s normal that people are concerned after we didn’t show up for an important match in the World Cup and the image we gave in the last 30 minutes isn’t what people are used to.

“But this team has been in similar adverse situations. We have character and experience.

“We compete and don’t hesitate. Another thing is, in the end, that’s football, win, lose or draw.

“Without courage, heart and sacrifice, we won’t stay. The team will be there, then what happens will happen.”

Reina added that the players are fully aware of the difficulty of playing Chile.

“We have tremendous respect for them and we need to as we know they are intense in everything they do,” he continued.

“Their team is tactically disciplined and it will be difficult. What matters to us is to take control and play how we want.

“It’s time to stand up for Spain. If we die, we will die with our heads held high.”
