Silva: Netherlands game key

David Silva believes that Spain won’t be put off by the raucous atmosphere they will find in Brazil this summer.

The Roja have touched down in South America, and are currently at their Curitiba base ahead of the game against Netherlands.

And the Manchester City attacker has insisted that the clash with the Dutch will be key.

“We know what kind of atmosphere to expect,” he told a Press conference.

“We went through it last year but at least this time we have a base whereas last year we were constantly on the move, we have more stability.

“It is a key game because it’s the first one – although we did losing the opening match at the last World Cup and went on to win the trophy.

“We know that if we can beat Holland, it will be an important step for us.”

The former Valencia man then commented on his role in the team and his earliest World Cup memory.

“I’ve been part of the sides which won two European championships and the World Cup. I played less during the last World Cup but that’s down to what decisions the coach makes.

“When I am given an opportunity, I’ll try give the best I can and if we all do that collectively, the team will benefit.

“The first World Cup finals I can remember is the 1994 finals and of Luis Enrique in the match against Italy.

“That is the earliest image which has stayed with me. We’ve been lucky enough to have won the World Cup and we hope to do it again to honour all of those players who tried to do it with Spain in previous tournaments.”
