Salgado surprised by Carvajal absence

Michel Salgado believes Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal should have been named in the Spain squad for the World Cup.

Juanfran and Cesar Azpilicueta were picked instead by Vicente Del Bosque and Salgado has told AS that Carvajal was unfortunate to miss out.

“It’s surprising that Carvajal is out of the World Cup,” the former Madrid right-back said.

“But it’s true the right-backs taken have had wonderful seasons.

“He knows what the future is and he’s had five great months at Madrid. He has a great future with the national team and should be calm.

“The most important thing is to be settled at Madrid, something that’s always difficult. He’s come from nowhere in an amazing way and will be the right-back for many years for Madrid and Spain.”
