UEFA President Michel Platini has said he would support taking World Cup 2022 away from Qatar if allegations of corruption are proven.
Speaking to L’Equipe, the former France international said that he still feels it was a good decision to award the tournament to the Qatar, but said if there has been wrongdoing – which is strongly denied by Qatar 2022 – the event should be held elsewhere.
“I think it was a wise decision for FIFA and the world of football,” Platini said, according to AS.
“But if corruption is proven, there must be sanctions and a new host.
“I am transparent. I’ve always said who I voted for. Qatar never asked me to vote for them.”
