Juanfran confident over fitness

Atletico Madrid defender Juanfran is sure he will be ready to play his part in Spain’s defence of the World Cup.

The right-back was named in Vicente Del Bosque’s squad for the tournament despite carrying an injury but Juanfran said at a Press conference that he would recover in time to feature if picked.

“I feel pretty good, much better,” he revealed, according to Marca.

“I am grateful to Vicente for trusting me and when I’m asked to play I’ll do my best as I have done all year.

“I’m optimistic, I’m very stubborn, very strong. I’ve always had difficult moments and have overcome them and [this injury] has been one more.

“When the [Champions League] final finished I was very sore. But Atletico and the national team have looked after me well and now I have no problem as I’m with the group and 100% ready.”

Regarding the Champions League final, Juanfran added that the feisty game wouldn’t cause a problem between the Real Madrid and Atleti players in the Spain squad.

“I’m very happy to be with the team. I always said it would be an honour to be with the best national team in history,” he continued.

“The final is forgotten. We couldn’t win despite our hope that we would, but we won the League title.

“No fatigue but hope, desire and representing an entire country, the players who are here and who aren’t here…and that’s for everyone. This team will not be tired before, during or after the World Cup.

“We’ll be fine, we will be very strong and there won’t be a problem.

“The head controls everything. Physically we will be fine. We’ll put in a lot of heart, and go far to spend the heart and cojones this team has and we will perform at our best.”
