Chile boss surprised by Vidal recovery

Chile national team boss Jorge Sampaoli can’t believe the recovery Arturo Vidal has made from knee surgery.

The Juventus midfielder only went under the knife at the start of last month to fix a niggling problem that plagued him during the end of the Serie A season.

But having recovered and back in training, the Coach has admitted that the former Bayer Leverkusen man has shown great mental fortitude.

“Vidal is a footballer who is so far above average in terms of physical and mental capacity,” the Coach told reporters.

“His recovery has surprised me. He’s already working with the ball despite the operation.

“But it’ll be up to the coaching stuff to decide whether he plays straight away.”

Chile have been placed in Group B for the World Cup alongside Spain, Netherlands and Australia. They play Vicente Del Bosque’s men in Rio on June 18.
