Navas wishes Spain luck

Jesus Navas has spoken of his disappointment not to be going to the World Cup with Spain, but did wish La Roja luck in Brazil.

Navas was among those cut from the preliminary squad when Vicente Del Bosque’s final 23 was announced on Saturday.

It was suggested that Del Bosque was concerned by Navas’ fitness after he ended the season on the sidelines, but the Manchester City winger has told AS that he is fully fit.

“It’s a shame. I worked hard but the Coach is the one who decides and what he decides is always right,” Navas said.

“He did it for the good of the group. The truth is I was recovered and eager but there were a lot of players with the same enthusiasm.

“The important thing is to be humble. I gave it a good try but they have all worked to be there and the Coach is the one who decides.

“All that remains is to wish them well. It’s a very important opportunity and hopefully we can retain the title.”
