Casillas’ Madrid future ‘settled’

Iker Casillas will remain at Real Madrid after President Florentino Perez told the goalkeeper he wanted him to stay.

Marca claim that Casillas and Perez have met only twice in the last nine months – in August and at the end of May.

Casillas is said in the August meeting to have expressed a desire to leave Santiago Bernabeu but by May, had changed his mind and confirmed he wanted to remain at Madrid when Perez asked directly.

“Well, you tell me Iker, what do you want?” Perez asked the captain.

“I have come to tell you I want to stay at Real Madrid,” came Casillas’ reply.

“And I want you to stay and I will not let you go, so the issue is settled,” was Perez’s response.

Casillas sat out most of the League campaign as Carlo Ancelotti kept faith in Diego Lopez, Casillas instead playing in the Copa del Rey and Champions League.

Madrid claimed both trophies but only managed a third-place finish in the League, with Casillas playing in a handful of games at the end of the season to keep sharp for the Champions League final.
