Perez ‘wants Spain to win WC’

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has pledged his support to Spain at the World Cup but believes it will be hard to retain the trophy.

Perez was speaking to Onda Cero and his comments have today been published by AS.

Regarding the national team, Perez backed Dani Carvajal to be La Roja’s starting right-back – if not for this tournament then for tournaments to come.

“I don’t know if he will go to the World Cup but I for sure would take him,” Perez said.

“And he’d start. Definitely.

“I think if he’s not now then he will be a starter for the national team in future. I have no doubt.”

Perez warned against expecting straight World Cups, but does believe Vicente Del Bosque’s side have the players to challenge.

“I think Spain have a very good team but winning is always difficult,” Perez said.

“We have won two consecutive European Championships and winning two World Cups will be very difficult.

“I think we have good players and the youngsters have been incorporated very well.

“I want Spain to win the World Cup. What Presidents don’t want Spain to win? The one at Tottenham…”
