Costa and Arda still hopeful

Atletico Madrid pair Diego Costa and Arda Turan are still hopeful of playing in the Champions League final this Saturday.

The duo have each been the victims of a series of niggling injuries over the closing weeks of the season, with both, especially Costa, initially seen as doubts for the meeting with Real Madrid in Lisbon.

Costa has a hamstring problem and had to be taken off early on during last weekend’s match against Barcelona, while the Turk was withdrawn with a knee injury slightly later on in the same game.

However, the Roja international has been in Belgrade this week to consult with ‘placenta doctor’ Mariana Kovacevic over whether a solution can be found that could see him take his place in the line-up.

According to reports in the Spanish Press, the 25-year-old forward has returned from Serbia optimistic and is now scheduled to undergo testing with the Rojiblancos later today.

Arda meanwhile has had his trusted Turkish doctor Burak Kunduracioglu flown over to Madrid in order to give his advice.

Following consultation earlier in the week, the attacking midfielder is set to resume training on the margins of the first team, with Diego Simeone said to be hopeful of at least naming the 27-year-old in his squad on Saturday.
