Simeone: This is why we work

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has spoken to the media ahead of his side’s match against Malaga tomorrow.

In what is a crucial fixture for the club, the Rojiblancos know that victory over Bernd Schuster’s visitors could see them secure them the title, depending on Barcelona’s result against Elche.

However, the Argentine tactician insists his players are not feeling any pressure ahead of the game, stressing that it is for occasions like these that people are involved in football.

“I live football in the same way as I live life,” Simeone said at a Press conference. “I know that in life you need to give of your best without looking ahead at where it may take you.

“As professionals we are giving a lot to this competition. Our aim is to continue with this motivation. We need to give the League the importance that it has always had.

“Our way of playing has been based on the collective unit and the team for a long time.

“We need to keep going, without looking ahead and hoping. That is the best way to prepare for this period.

“Our future and destiny is marked out for us moving forward. We just need to do what we have to do.

“Tomorrow there will be a lot of people at the stadium and that will be good as it is an important match.

“For us, it depends on what we produce tomorrow.

“There is no pressure, only responsibility. This is a great moment. All of us who work in football want to reach important situations like this one.

“We will live the moment as we should and we will continue working in order to continue doing things well.”

Simeone then answered questions on the fitness of Diego Costa, tomorrow’s opponents Malaga and whether he will be hoping for Barcelona to slip up.

“Costa is feeling better and more comfortable. We will do some tests on him before the match to see whether he is ready.

“Malaga tomorrow will play conscious of the situation they are in. Duda, Santa Cruz, Wellington and Camacho are all boys who can play well.

“Barcelona slipping up? That would be hoping for something outside my control. I don’t hope. The only thing I know is that I need to win.”
