Varane rubbishes knee rumours

Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane has insisted he was happy with his knee surgery and put to bed any gossip his right knee is badly hurt.

Varane underwent an operation on his left knee and told Le Figaro that he has no complaints over the procedure or the doctor who carried it out, despite rumours to the contrary.

“There have been many things said about my knee,” AS reports Varane as beginning.

“It’s a joke that I didn’t like my good knee surgery.

“But the situation is clear: I was in good hands, Dr. Herve Silbert. I keep in touch with him and he did a great job.

“All is well with the joint and there is no doubt about my right knee.”

AS adds that Varane didn’t train on Thursday, having missed the 1-1 draw with Real Valladolid on Wednesday due to inflammation in his knee.

It’s unclear if Varane will feature on Sunday against Celta Vigo but he hopes to play against Espanyol in Madrid’s final League fixture, but could be held back to be ready for the Champions League final.
