‘Valencia fell into Atletico trap’

Juan Antonio Pizzi believes Valencia played right into Atletico Madrid’s hands in their 1-0 defeat against the League leaders.

A Raul Garcia header proved the only goal of the game and ensured Atletico remained four points clear at the top of the table.

Valencia meanwhile remain eighth, missing the chance to close the gap on Villarreal, who hold the final Europa League qualification place.

According to Marca, Pizzi said after the match that the game was similar to the Europa League tie against Sevilla, which last week Valencia lost 2-0.

“Atletico do something very similar to Sevilla. They are teams that are comfortable playing with a lot of personality and intensity and you can’t ignore these factors,” the Coach said.

“They are important in football, as we have seen in the past two games.

“You can see the match developing as it did against Atletico and I am very critical of myself and my players. We fell into their trap.

“In the second-half we were very exposed. They had more attackers, ran faster, are bigger and deserved to win.”
