Javier Mascherano has said Barcelona used the life of Tito Vilanova as inspiration to defeat Villarreal on Sunday.
The former Barca Coach passed away from throat cancer on Friday and the game at El Madrigal was Barca’s first since.
Villarreal took a two-goal lead by the hour mark but Barca came back to win 3-2 and after the match, AS reports that Mascherano cited the experience of Vilanova as an example to the players.
“You don’t choose to be right or wrong. You just are what you are,” an emotional Mascherano said.
“So are we. This is very recent. What remains is to be with the family of Tito, to send them a hug.
“Your pain is shared with us. We want to and we feel that pain with them.
“We had to come here, meet and fight to the end, as he did. To the end.
“The game was like the life of Tito. A fight to the end.”
