Jemez proud of Barca link

Paco Jemez has admitted he is flattered to have his name mentioned in connection with replacing Tata Martino at Barcelona.

The Rayo Vallecano Coach is said to be on the shortlist of Barca’s sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, with Martino expected to depart Catalonia at the end of the season.

Mundo Deportivo reports that Jemez insisted, tongue-in-cheek, that he is in fact top of the shortlist.

“I’ll get the call and I’m first on the list,” he said at a Press conference.

“I’m proud that my name has come up and many teams might want me, I can’t lie.

“Possibly it’s just rumours. I haven’t heard from Barcelona, Real Betis or Espanyol.

“Rumours and speculation about jumps are starting because this is the time to jump.

“It seems the Barca Coach won’t continue but we’ll see.

“What I say is that I’m here. It’s my responsibility. I have a year on my contract and the main thing is to stay up.

“Then we’ll see what happens, but usually nothing happens.

“Names appear in the summer, winter, Christmas. It’s normal. It football there are options but nobody knows what will happen.”
