Filipe: Brazil team more competitive

Filipe Luis believes he would have had an easier time getting into the Spain side as Brazil has greater competition for places.

Sport reports that the Atletico Madrid left-back was offered the chance to represent La Roja prior to the 2010 World Cup, but chose to play for the South Americans instead.

He has told ESPN radio that while Spain have some high-class full-backs, Brazil have a great deal more. Asked directly if he’d have been more likely to play for Spain than Brazil, Filipe said he believes so.

“Yes. In Spain we have Jordi Alba, Nacho Monreal and Alberto Moreno,” he answered.

“On the right are Cesar Azpilicueta, Alvaro Arbeloa and Juanfran.

“In Brazil we can easily talk about 10 left and 10 right without opening the book.

“Marcelo, for me, is the best full-back in the world. I’ve learned a lot from seeing him in training.

“Then there’s Maxwell, who’s won everything. I wouldn’t put myself ahead of anyone.”

Asked if he regrets not playing for Spain after Vicente Del Bosque’s side won the World Cup, Filipe insisted that he didn’t.

“A call up to the Brazil team is worth 10 or 20 of any other country,” he replied.
