Former Barcelona forward Hristo Stoichkov has criticised the transfer policy of La Blaugrana and Sandro Rosell’s decision to resign as President.
The Bulgarian is quoted by Sport as telling Cadena Cope that both incoming signings and outgoing players have been badly judged in recent years.
“Money is thrown away. Barca do things they shouldn’t, such as selling Thiago Alcantara for €25m when his clause was €90m,” Stoichkov said.
“Barca might as well sponsor Arsenal. Then we could ask how much they paid for Cesc Fabregas.
“And there’s more. Rafinha, Fontas, who was sold for €1m when Carles Puyol needed replacing.
“Or Martin Caceres, who was another atrocity. Selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic, when he was bought for €66m.
“It seems absurd that [Rosell] decided to resign because of a panic. Neymar has done nothing wrong, and he’s a good player who will eventually fit with the dynamics of the club.”
Stoichkov also touched on Wednesday’s Copa del Rey final, backing Barca to lift the trophy.
“Barca will go for it. What’s written and said about the players hurts them,” he predicted.
“Three weeks ago Leo Messi scored three goals at Santiago Bernabeu and people question his professionalism.
“The team should be supported from the first minute.”
