Espanyol Coach Javier Aguirre has been targeted by three national teams – Qatar, Japan and Greece, according to reports.
AS claims that Aguirre was said to be close to taking over with Qatar at the end of the season but the interest from Japan has complicated matters.
Current Japan Coach Alberto Zaccheroni is expected to leave after the World Cup and Aguirre, who has international experience from his time with Mexico, is top of the shortlist.
Greece have also made enquiries although a move to the Euro 2004 winners is considered unlikely.
Espanyol remain hopeful Aguirre will stay at Cornella-El Prat but he has not offered any signs he wants to renew his contract.
Should Aguirre depart then there is a possibility his assistant, Alfredo Tena, will remain at Espanyol to fill the vacancy.
