Falcao not surprised by Atletico

Radmael Falcao has commended the form of Atletico Madrid since he left for Monaco and says he isn’t surprised to see it.

Falcao spent two years at Vicente Calderon before making the switch to Monaco last summer and told Marca that the only thing that surprises him is that Atletico are leading the table.

“Maybe I didn't expect them to be this strong and so in control,” the Columbia international said.

“Yes we knew the team, in its third year with Diego Simeone, would be stronger.

“But for them to fight him on level terms with Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have a vastly bigger budget, I don't think anyone thought this was possible.

“What they are doing is admirable under Simeone, but I'm not surprised. I knew they had the potential.”

Falcao has been linked with a return to La Liga but in the shirt of Los Blancos.

He said when asked about the speculation that all he is concerned about is getting fit after suffering a serious knee injury earlier in the season.

In the long-term, Falcao added, he wants to play in the Champions League with his current club.

“Fans I've spoken to in Madrid have been wishing me a swift recovery and say they hope I go to the World Cup,” Falcao revealed.

“Some people ask if I will join Real Madrid. I tell them my only concern is to recover soon.

“I am realistic, I am aware of my injury and I just want to recover to play with my new club, Monaco.

“I want to be ready for next season if we qualify for Champions League.

“Now I do not think about anything other than my knee getting better.”
