Del Bosque: Only sympathy for Valdes

Vicente Del Bosque has not yet decided who he will name in Spain’s World Cup squad in place of Victor Valdes.

Valdes tore his anterior cruciate ligament in Barcelona’s 3-0 win over Celta Vigo and faces six months on the sidelines, ruling the 32-year-old out of the World Cup.

Del Bosque spoke with Spanish radio station Onda Cero and revealed his first thought was sympathy for Valdes.

“It’s very sad. It’s a very bad injury for him,” the national team Coach said.

“It’s always bad when you can’t play for your club or at the World Cup.

“I don’t want to get into who might be Victor’s substitute.

“The first thing is to hope he recovers well. At the moment we’ve not thought about anything else.

“He is our only thought as he is in a bad situation.”
