Schalke situation ‘comical’

Schalke’s Julian Draxler admits it would be ‘comical’ to even consider the possibility of his side staging a comeback against Real Madrid.

The German side lost the first leg of their Champions League tie with Carlo Ancelotti’s team 6-1 and are all but out of the competition ahead of the return at the Bernabeu.

“Playing at the Bernabeu is somewhere that every footballer wants to play,” Draxler said to Schalke’s official website.

“Without pulling any punches, out situation is comical.

“We are realistic enough to know that being 6-1 down there are not many possibilities for us.

“Nevertheless, we want to play a good match.”

The midfielder admitted his side’s priority has now shifted to ensuring they are playing in Europe’s premier club competition again next season.

“We are all very motivated, our desire is to get the best out of ourselves and qualify for the Champions League,” he commented.
