Ander Iturraspe believes Athletic Bilbao’s current form has led to a positive atmosphere among the players.
The midfielder is quoted by Mundo Deportivo as rating Monday’s La Liga game against Villarreal as one of the most important of the season.
But Iturraspe believes the good mood at Athletic will stand them in good stead.
“The situation is very, very good, excellent, and we are very happy,” he said.
“There’s a lot left to do but we have a good cushion [on the teams below] and the chance to make the gap bigger.
“This is a key game for Villarreal but so too for us. If we can win it would be a tremendous blow to them.”
Athletic are currently fourth in the table, seven points clear of fifth-place Villarreal.
“From now on, each game is vital,” Iturraspe continued.
“Villarreal is a game that matters a lot and should be a good game.
“I expect a great atmosphere [at El Madrigal].
“We have a great opportunity to do well but it’s a challenge because it’s a hard place to go against a very strong rival. But we have to show we belong here.”
