Tata Martino has said the only way Barcelona can account for the departure of Carles Puyol is to go into the transfer market.
The captain announced this week he was leaving Camp Nou at the end of the season and could retire, although his future is not yet decided.
Martino, speaking at a Press conference prior to Barca’s game against Real Valladolid, paid tribute to the skipper.
“Puyol will not be replaced. I’ve only worked with him for seven or eight months but it’s been enough to confirm what I saw from the outside,” he said.
“We haven’t talked about anything for next season. The only change is that with Puyol leaving we need to sign a central defender.
“I thought Puyol would become a coach but he’s told me that he won’t be yet.”
