Del Bosque: Costa debut ‘good news’

Vicente Del Bosque believes the debut of Diego Costa for Spain in the 1-0 win over Italy was a welcome development.

Pedro scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark and speaking to reporters following the final whistle, the Coach gave his thoughts on the first appearance of Brazil-born Costa for La Roja.

“It’s good news. Little by little he’s getting into the team dynamic” Del Bosque said.

Asked if he was concerned Costa would struggle to adapt to Spain’s passing style when he is used to Atletico Madrid’s more direct approach, Del Bosque insisted he wasn’t.

“No player will harm the way we play,” Del Bosque added.

Costa himself thanked Del Bosque for having the faith in him to hand him a debut at Vicente Calderon.

“The Coach trusts me,” Costa said.

“I’m very happy but I think I can give more. The first match is never easy.”
