No excuses for Pizzi

Valencia Coach Juan Antonio Pizzi offered no excuses for his side’s defeat by Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.

Joaquin Larrivey scored the only goal of the game and after the match Pizzi told reporters that he wouldn’t blame injuries or referees for the result.

“We have injuries, as do all teams. Some people might view it as an excuse.

“We don’t use the referees as an excuse.”

Pizzi added that for Los Che to meet their objectives this season they have to dig deeper.

“We should all demand more to achieve what we want.

“The team requires a level of concentration and effort that sometimes you can’t find.

“We created clear chances but we were imprecise. But we had a good day.”

Pizzi also praised the performances of debutant Portu and Eduardo Vargas.

“We are very pleased with the performance of Portu. His debut can give us joy.

“His performance was good. We took him off for a more attacking option.

“Vargas has great qualities. He’s a leading international player.”
