Huntelaar: Madrid a ‘super’ club

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has spoken warmly of his time at Real Madrid prior to taking on Los Blancos with Schalke.

The sides meet in the Champions League on Wednesday evening and Huntelaar was put before the media at a pre-match Press conference.

Asked about his lasting impressions having played for Madrid in 2009, Huntelaar admitted to happy memories.

“It’s a super club. I really enjoyed my time there,” Huntelaar revealed.

“The training complex is amazing, and the stadium too and the people at the club are great but now, my life is focused on Schalke.

“I want to be at my best in every game and tomorrow’s meeting with Real Madrid will be no different,” he continued.

“We’re still alive in the competition and now we’re at the knockout stage. It’s a huge game against a brilliant team.

“We’re lucky in that the first leg is at home, after that, we’ll see what happens in Madrid.

“We will all need to have a good day. If we are all at 100 per cent then we can make Madrid suffer.”

Huntelaar made 20 appearances for Madrid after joining from Ajax, scoring eight goals before spending a season with Milan prior to his move to Germany.
