Jaunde Ramos backs Bale and Modric

Former Tottenham and Real Madrid Coach Juande Ramos believes Gareth Bale and Luka Modric are key players at Santiago Bernabeu.

Ramos worked with both players during his time at Spurs and was in charge at White Hart Lane when Modric moved to the club.

The current Dnipro boss believes that once Bale is over his settling-in period, Madrid will see the best of him.

“It’s no wonder [his performances have been inconsistent]. Bale has immense talent but adaptation is always difficult,” Ramos told AS.

“The language, the customs…But he can contribute so much.

“If we look at the minutes he has played, he has scored lots of goals. He will succeed wherever he plays.”

Ramos added that he advised Spurs to sign Modric after learning about the midfielder from contacts in Croatia.

“I have people in Croatia who alerted me to him,” Ramos said.

“The problem was he was young and needed to adjust. Now he’s mature and is the player we thought he’d become.

“Modric has the personality to carry the weight of the game.”

Ramos believes both Modric and Bale will be positive presences around the club.

“They are good people to have in the locker room. They don’t have big egos, were good friends and had lots of fun when I was with them.

“At the moment Bale is doing well with the language and will have a very nice experience in Madrid.”
