Paco ‘pleased and proud’

Paco Jemez has said Rayo Vallecano’s 4-1 win over Malaga left him feeling ‘pleased and proud’.

Rayo were three goals up by half-time, with Malaga down to 10 men on the stroke of the interval after Sergio Sanchez was dismissed in conceding the penalty that led to the third goal.

“It was our best first-half of the season,” Jemez told reporters.

“And it earned us the chance to get a result, although it wasn’t our best game of the season.

“We knew it was a match where we needed victory or nothing because we are running out of chances to stay up.

“Overall I am very pleased and proud to get the win because it was a game that could have brought lots of pressure.

“We could have ended up a little sunk or permanently down.

“There remains a lot to do to stay up but today was a crucial win against a great opponent.

“Today was an important win but now we have to go to Barcelona and do our best.

“Our situation has improved but we have to remain committed.”
