Prieto: La Real want to make history

Real Sociedad captain Xabi Prieto believes his teammates are eager to make history in the Copa del Rey.

La Real face Barcelona at Camp Nou in the semi-final first-leg on Wednesday night and Prieto has told Marca that providing the game in Catalonia is competitive, his side can win it at Anoeta.

“The key is to keep the tie alive for the return game,” Prieto said.

“With the support of our people there are a thousand possibilities.

“I believe we can get a draw first.

“We know Barca and we how know Tata Martino plays.

“Competing against them is always difficult but we go with a lot of enthusiasm and a desire to make history.”

Prieto added he was desperate not to let Sociedad’s season peter out after the heavy defeat to Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

“This season has been very special,” the midfielder said.

“Besides playing in the Champions League we have managed to sneak into the semis of the Copa,” Prieto continued, in reference to the quarter-final against Racing that was abandoned when the Segunda B players went on strike.

“We achieve in San Sebastian and need to be aware of this and to use it.

“We are doing well, although we were thrashed at the Vicente Calderon.

“But I don’t think that result reflects what was happening on the pitch.”
